Abstract:The focus of this paper is the application of the NASPI [1] generated PMU placement process to locate thirty-nine (39) Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) within the NYCA (NYCA Study). The material for this panel paper is based upon work supported by the Department of Energy under Award Number(s) DE-OE0000368 and is a collaborative effort between the New York ISO (NYISO) and the Transmission Owners (TOs) in the NYCA.The placement of PMUs discussed in the paper follows multiple criteria with the overall objective t… Show more
“…It will rather measure only m designated channel currents, m > 0 being the threshold number. Such constraints in flow observability has been reported for several PMUs operating in the Eastern Interconnect [11]. This type of constrained observability is also relevant when one or more analog channels of a PMU start malfunctioning, or are manipulated by extraneous malicious attacks, under which conditions the measurements from those channels cannot be relied on any more.…”

“…With increase in the number of PMUs in the US grid over the past decade, placement has also been dictated by several other driving purposes such as state estimation [9], and voltage monitoring near wind power sources [10]. An illustrative case study of this problem for the New York grid has recently been presented in [11]. An excellent taxonomy of various numerical optimization methods used for solving these PMU placement problems can be found in [12].…”

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
