“…Published estimates of sensitivity and false-negative rates are 30% to 46% and 35% to 70%, respectively, when compared to CT. 657,675,[680][681][682] The lower sensitivity is related to the difficulty or inability of rigid and flexible endoscopy to assess the interior of all of the sinonasal cavities, especially in unoperated patients. r Benefit: Higher positive predictive value and specificity for a CRS diagnosis compared to using symptoms alone, allowing for the avoidance of CT utilization costs and potential radiation exposure of imaging.…”

“…676,[680][681][682] Although anterior rhinoscopy may reveal mucopurulent drainage or severe nasal polyposis, this examination technique may not consistently provide sufficient illumination and visualization of structures beyond the inferior turbinate. Nasal endoscopy provides a more thorough examination of sinus drainage pathways in the middle meatus, sphenoethmoidal recess, and nasopharynx.…”

“…Similar doubts on the value of symptom-based diagnosis of chronic rhinosinusitis have been raised by others. 22 We believe, that the good correlation of symptom and endoscopic scores in our study may be explained by homogenous population of patients, who suffered from a disease (COPD) with known high prevalence of rhinosinusitis, and not in the general non-predefined population, as it was in case of cited studies. …”

“…8 From the literature, it appears that nasal endoscopy provides more important objective evidence of CRS and corroborates findings with polyps grades in the majority of patients. 6,9,10 In some cases, infections also found with harvesting of inflammatory mediators or eosinophils. 8 The radiographical diagnosis may not ne indicated in this study, thus it could probably be considered when the symptoms persist in spite of medical therapy or when a surgical intervention is needed.…”
