“…In small open prospective trials, it has been demonstrated that NB UVB is probably effective in diseases such as lichen planus, seborrheic dermatitis, and pruritus associated with polycythemia vera. Although itch appears to be one of the most responsive subjective symptoms to NB UVB, 12,31,33,35 there is a lack of well-designed studies on patients with pruritus associated with systemic diseases, in particular comparing BB UVB with NB UVB. Possibly NB UVB is also an effective, in particular potentially itch-reducing, therapeutic option for patients with chronic urticaria or acquired perforating dermatosis.…”

“…The condition frequently improves on sun exposure, and previous studies have documented the beneficial effect of treatment with artificial light sources including selective UVB and oral PUVA. 48 Recently Pirkhammer et al 35 reported in an open prospective study on 18 patients with severe seborrheic dermatitis (including 7 patients with lesions on the chest) who responded favorably to NB UVB 3 times weekly after a median number of 23 exposures resulting in median cumulative NB UVB dose of 9.8 J/cm 2 . The median clinical score decreased from 7.5 at baseline to 0.5 (P = .005) after 8 weeks of treatment and the pruritus score from 4.5 to 0 (P = .008).…”
