Narrative review of health‐related quality of life and its predictors among patients with coronary heart disease

Abstract: This paper summarizes the empirical evidence concerning health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and attempts to identify its significant predictors. A systematic search of the literature from 2002 to 2012 was conducted using seven electronic databases (CINAHL, ScienceDirect, Medline, Scopus, PsycINFO, PubMed and Web of Science) using the search terms 'HRQoL'. 'CHD', 'social support', 'depression', 'anxiety', 'psychosocial factors', 'sociodemographic factors', 'clini… Show more

“…Studies on the relationship between R/S and QOL among patients with various forms of CVD have, however, demonstrated mixed results. While several reviews have examined factors associated with QOL in patients with CVD [ 18 , 19 ], the association between R/S and global or HRQOL among patients with CVD has received limited attention.…”

“…Based on the notion that health is more than the absence of disease, HRQL evaluation has become a major public health topic over recent decades. According to the latest research, age, chronic disease, health services, medical insurance, education, economic status, and physical exercise are the main factors influencing HRQL in the general population; in particular, age and disease are independent risk factors [9, 10]. However, the factors that influence HRQL in CAD outpatients and the consistency of these factors between physical and mental HRQL remain unclear.…”

“…Although this number has been in decline for the last two decades, it has increased in low- and middle-income countries [14]. Moreover, patients with CVDs report significantly poorer health-related quality of life (HRQoL) as compared to the population without chronic diseases, similar to patients with other potentially disabling chronic conditions, such as diabetes, arthritis and depression [5, 6]. …”
