Narrative of a versatile and adept species Pseudomonas putida

Abstract: Pseudomonas putida is a fast-growing bacterium found mostly in temperate soil and water habitats. The metabolic versatility of P. putida makes this organism attractive for biotechnological applications such as biodegradation of environmental pollutants and synthesis of added-value chemicals (biocatalysis). This organism has been extensively studied in respect to various stress responses, mechanisms of genetic plasticity and transcriptional regulation of catabolic genes. P. putida is able to colonize … Show more

“…The soil and root‐colonizing bacterium Pseudomonas putida KT2440 is growingly receiving attention as a suitable chassis for a suite of biotechnological and environmental applications (Nikel et al ., 2016; Nikel and de Lorenzo, 2018; Aparicio et al ., 2019; Kivisaar, 2020). In this context, the characterization of the mechanisms that trigger the swim or attach decision are decisive for, e.g.…”

“…P. putida is also routinely used as a host in industrial biocatalysis. Readers are referred to the recent review of Kivisaar (2020) for more information about these aspects. The P. putida group includes also clinical isolates.…”

“…Pseudomonas putida is a ubiquitous Gram-negative bacterium used for biotechnological and bioremediation applications 34-37 . Strain KT2440, for instance, is a promising microbial chassis for handling the synthesis of difficult-to-produce chemicals involving harsh reactions and complex biochemistries 36-40 . Alas, metabolic engineering of P. putida still relies largely on trial-and-error approaches.…”
