Nanotechnology‐Based Strategies to Evaluate and Counteract Cancer Metastasis and Neoangiogenesis

Abstract: Cancer metastasis is the major cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality. It represents one of the greatest challenges in cancer therapy, both because of the ability of metastatic cells to spread into different organs, and because of the consequent heterogeneity that characterizes primary and metastatic tumors. Nanomaterials can potentially be used as targeting or detection agents owing to unique chemical and physical features that allow tailored and tunable theranostic functions. This review highlights … Show more

“…Wound healing, ovulation, and embryonic development, are just a few of the numerous processes in which it plays an important part. In addition, it is a crucial factor in the pathogenesis of a great number of disorders (including cancer metastasis and arthritis) [ 230 , 231 , 241 ]. Because nutrients and an appropriate oxygen supply are necessary for the survival of metastatic cells and the development of tumors, metastatic cells need to remain in close proximity to blood capillaries to maintain direct contact with the circulatory network [ 157 ].…”

“…Nanomedicine is the application of nanotechnology, which is related to materials belonging to the size range of 1–100 nm, in the medical field [ 172 , 173 ]. Nanotechnology plays an extensive and important role in the diagnosis [ 174 ], detection of metastasis and treatment of cancer [ 175 ]. For example, NPs could not only outline the primary and metastatic OSCC but could show a therapeutical effect [ 176 ], and could be used as a probe for the infrared fluorescence imaging of OSCC [ 177 ].…”

“…Numerous tumor-targeting nanoparticles have been developed for use in cancer applications as a result of the growing interest in applying nanotechnology to cancer detection and treatment [ 4 , 5 ]. In order to address a synergistic strategy to combat metastatic tumors, nanomedicines are currently being used to entrap traditional therapeutics and diagnostic equipment [ 6 , 7 , 8 ]. According to the current circumstances, developing new delivery systems that are quick and simple to prepare, affordable, have high drug loading efficiency, are stable under biological conditions, encourage drug retention in tissues, and are tailored for the delivery of already-approved FDA-approved drugs is the quickest and most practical way to improve the cancer treatment regimen [ 9 ].…”
