Nanoparticle-Based Inhalation Therapy for Pulmonary Diseases

Abstract: The lung is exposed to various pollutants and is the primary site for the onset of various diseases, including infections, allergies, and cancers. One possible treatment approach for such pulmonary diseases involves direct administration of therapeutics to the lung so as to maintain the topical concentration of the drug. Particles with nanoscale diameters tend to reach the pulmonary region. Nanoparticles (NPs) have garnered significant interest for applications in biomedical and pharmaceutical industries becau… Show more

“…Therefore, the goal of integrating a drug into or onto a polymeric and/or lipid NP is to substantially increase the drug’s therapeutic effect. The use of NPs in drug delivery is advantageous because they increase a drug’s bioavailability by enhancing its aqueous solubility and lengthening its half-life, which, in turn, slows the pace of drug clearance and delivers the medication to its intended site of action [ 89 , 90 , 91 ]. Furthermore, a wide range of NPs is used to treat AD [ 92 ].…”

“…Due to its outstanding potential for treating a variety of medical conditions, including viruses, the application of nanotechnology and nanomedicine has been seen as promising [30] . Because of their unique physicochemical properties and biological activities, nanoparticles (NPs) have sparked significant interest in applications in the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries [31] . In-depth studies are needed to understand the in vivo behaviour of nanoparticle drug delivery systems for schistosomiasis, however, let us explore some of the milestones that can then progress to clinical trials.…”
