Nanomaterials for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Inflammatory Arthritis

Abstract: Nanomaterials have received increasing attention due to their unique chemical and physical properties for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the most common complex multifactorial joint-associated autoimmune inflammatory disorder. RA is characterized by an inflammation of the synovium with increased production of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, and IL-10) and by the destruction of the articular cartilage and bone, and it is associated with the development of cardiovascular disorders such … Show more

“…Nanomaterials with MR imaging properties have demonstrated promising diagnostic performance in neurodegenerative diseases ( Cui et al, 2021 ). Nanomaterials based on the polydopamine and imaging properties showed great therapeutic potential in inflammation, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and neurodegenerative diseases ( Li H. et al, 2021 ; Hosseinikhah et al, 2021 ). And there also had research on imageable nanomaterials in inflammatory and infectious diseases.…”

“…Increased targeting ability to arthritis was introduced using MSC-derived EVs and NPs. 184 , 185 MSC membrane-coated NPs are proming strategy for clearing raised concerns from direct use of MSC (with or without NPs) in terms of toxicity, reduced biocompatibility, and poor targeting ability of NPs for the treatment of arthritis.…”

“…Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic systemic disease with autoimmune pathogenesis and systemic involvement, which is associated with the overexpression profile of many proinflammatory cytokines ( Petrovska et al, 2021 , 102797; Hosseinikhah et al, 2021 ). This autoimmune disorder affects nearly 1% of the total adult population and remains a cause of high rates of morbidity and mortality in humans ( Zhao and Zhang, 2018 , 123).…”
