“…The T p of the bulk sample is the same as that of the powdered one. This result clearly suggests that the bulk crystallization, i.e., homogeneous nucleation, is considerably dominant in the BTS glass, as reported by Cabral et al 19 …”

“…The heat-treated sample at T HT 730c C indicated a halo pattern, implying that the Ba 2 TiSi 2 O 8 crystalline phase is not precipitated in the sample at this temperature. In the case of T HT 740-760c C, the intensity of the diffraction peaks drastically increases with the increasing T HT , and eventually the intensity reaches a saturation for the samples prepared at T HT 760-780c C. These results suggest that the formation of the Ba 2 TiSi 2 O 8 phase in the BTS glass starts near T HT 740c C, and then saturates at T HT 760c C. According to Cabral et al, in the 40BaOெ20TiO 2 ெ40SiO 2 glass, the volume fraction of the crystals, a, reached unity i.e., aĬ1 by crystallization at 750c C for 1 h. 19 The result from the powder XRD in this study is consistent with this report.…”

“…On the other hand, glasses with stoichiometric fresnoite composition, i.e., 40BaO 20TiO 2 40GeO 2 , 40BaO20TiO 2 40SiO 2 , and 40SrO20TiO 2 40SiO 2 , show homogenous nucleation that leads to bulk crystallization. Bulk crystallization of 40BaO20TiO 2 40SiO 2 crystallized glass was observed by Cabral,20) and 40BaO 20TiO 2 40GeO 2 , 40SrO20TiO 2 40SiO 2 crystallized glass was confirmed by polarization microscope at their cross-section in this study. Improvement of thermal stability is needed to prevent homogeneous nucleation.…”

“…The nanocrystallization behavior of BTS 40BaOெ20TiO 2 ெ 40SiO 2 bulk not fiber glasses has been studied in detail by Cabal et al, 13 and it has been reported that BTS glasses show extremely high nucleation rates. Furthermore, Takahashi et al 5 ,14 have reported that nanocrystallized glasses consisting of Ba 2 TiSi 2 O 8 nanocrystals show relatively strong SHGs.…”
