“…Process parameters and material attribute like the amount of the drug, amount of milling pearls used, milling speed, milling time and temperature must be controlled to obtain particles in the desired size range 28 . Another alternative top-down method was developed by Muller and co-workers, called piston-gap homogenizer, wherein the suspension is passed at high speed through a small orifice and during passage through the orifice collision of crystals results in the particle size reduction 24 , 33 , 34 , 35 . Erosion from the milling pearl, during the milling process, is the major limitation of the method, but in recent years, yttrium stabilization of milling media has ameliorated this problem.…”

“…The concept of formation of nanocrystal is extensively evolved for solubility enhancement. Nanocrystal technology improved dissolution rate, high drug loading, improved oral absorption and bioavailability 37 . Commonly used methods for preparation of nanocrystals are nanoprecipitation, milling, homogenization 38 , Spray drying 39 , Nanopure® XP technology 40 and Spray Freezing into Liquid technology 41 .…”

“…Nanocrystals are particles of pure drug in nano size range stabilized with the aid of little amount of stabilizer. These differ from other nanomaterials in a way that these are composed of active pharmaceutical ingredient contrary to serving as drug carriers by virtue of excipients that is usually the case with micelles, liposomes and polymeric nanoparticles [12] . Some authors have expanded this definition of nanocrystals to include amorphous form of drug as well, and accept both crystalline and amorphous form in its definition [13,14] .…”
