Nanocomposite of 2‐Aminophenol with Aniline Using Copper‐Montmorillonite: Synthesis, Characterization, Conductivity, and Electrochemical Study

Abstract: Polymer/clay nanocomposite particles with 2-aminophenol (2AP) and polyaniline and modified montmorillonite by copper minerals were synthesized using an in situ intercalative oxidative polymerization method. The nanocomposites were characterized by elementary analysis, X-ray diffraction, FTIR, thermogravimetric analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and conductivity measurements. The insertion of the polymer into the layer of the clay was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis, which shows a significantly… Show more

“…It is expected that using less thermally stable doped polymers will enable decomposition of the precursors at a relatively lower temperature and hence, agglomeration will be avoided. The smaller particle sizes obtained in case of PAA and PANAA precursor could be explained on the basis that the large size of the polymer saves good coating around the metal ions which reduces the effect of growth of the metal oxide nuclei after removal of the organic polymer …”

[41][42][43] CONCLUSIONS Oxidative polymerization of aniline, anthranilic acid, and anilineco-anthranilic acid was carried out in the presence of potassium dichromate as an oxidizing agent in acidic medium. Chromium ions were detected in the resulting polymer.…”

“…For example, incorporation of Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles results in high conductivities of nanocomposites [12], and polymerization of TiO 2 [13] or TiC nanoparticles produces electroactive polymers [14]. Good electrochemical response was observed for polymers grown into Montmorillonite-Cu [15] or MontmorilloniteNa [16].…”

“…In order to exceed its limitations, o-aminophenol has been widely used as a co-monomer for copolymerization with aniline. Poly(ANI-co-OAP) retains part of the properties of polyaniline and also offers new characteristics [10][11][12], as the improved redox response at pH over 10, which is mainly attributed to the reversible redox activity of the -OH group contained in the copolymer chain.…”
