Nanocarrier drug resistant tumor interactions: novel approaches to fight drug resistance in cancer

Abstract: Cancer is one of the biggest healthcare concerns in our century, a disease whose treatment has become even more difficult following reports of drug-resistant tumors. When this happens, chemotherapy treatments fail or decrease in efficiency, leading to catastrophic consequences to the patient. This discovery, along with the fact that drug resistance limits the efficacy of current treatments, has led to a new wave of discovery for new methods of treatment. The use of nanomedicine has been widely studied in curre… Show more

“…Various therapeutic moiety delivery technologies for cancer chemotherapy have been investigated and analysed. There are multiple difficulties in cancer treatment, such as non-targeted delivery, short drug release profiles, and drug resistance tumor interactions [ 18 ]. Hence, cancer treatment techniques vary to support the efficiency and effectiveness of treatments targeting cancer cells.…”

“…Despite accessible formulations and an abundance of drugs, cancer treatment remains a major challenge for researchers. One of the primary challenges in developing and curating innovative drug delivery systems for targeting cancer cells is in improving the cancer cell elimination efficiency while retaining sufficient systematic biocompatibility in vivo [ 18 ] . In the context of using niosomes as the delivery system for curcumin for cancer treatments, the influences of parameters such as the niosome formulation, pH condition, membrane surface charge, nature of the surfactant, and temperature of the dispersion medium remain unclear.…”

“…Interestingly, Guo et al used magnetic particles to obtain high resolution and contrast imaging of malignancies 143 . These therapies make the cancer cells more receptive to additional therapies, allowing for the efficient delivery of higher therapeutic agent doses while reducing the possibility of unfavorable side effects 145 …”

“…Several strategies have been proposed to overcome resistance to cancer chemotherapies. Nanocarriers have the potential to limit drug toxicity, achieve tumor localization, and overcome drug resistance [ 18 , 19 ]. On the other hand, brain drug delivery and passing the blood–brain barrier (BBB) are directly affected by particle size.…”
