Nanobiocomposite Based Electrochemical Sensor for Sensitive Determination of Serotonin in Presence of Dopamine, Ascorbic Acid and Uric Acid In Vitro

Abstract: A multiwalled carbon nanotube – chitosan (MWCNT‐Chit) composite modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was fabricated and applied for sensitive and selective determination of serotonin also known as 5‐hydroxytryptamine (5‐HT). Electroanalytical response of the fabricated electrode towards the detection of 5‐HT was studied by using cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results show that the MWCNT‐Chit/GCE has greatly enhanced the oxidation peak current and that the nanocomposite fil… Show more

“…The low detection limit was determined to be 13.7 nM by considering the slope of the plot and the change in peak current by three relative standard deviations (3σ). Such a parabolic increase in the peak current was reported earlier in several electrochemical sensors [4,19,35]. The parabolic increase in the peak current was observed probably due to a slow heterogeneous electron transfer at the interface.…”

“…This confirms the immobilization of the aptamer on the COOH-MWCNT surface. [22,23] CVs for the bare GCE and COOH-MWCNT/GCE before and after the immobilization of the aptamer are recorded in PBS (100 mM pH 7.4) and 100 mM KCl. Curve (b) in Figure 6C shows the existence of a couple of redox waves in the À 0.111 and 0.011 V as cathodic and anodic peak potentials at a scan rate of 0.1 V. s À 1 for COOH-MWCNT/GCE.…”
