Nano tin oxide/dimethyl polysiloxane reinforced composite as a flexible radiation protecting material

Abstract: Reinforced polymer composites are a recent type of advanced shielding material that has been studied experimentally and theoretically. This work described the protection properties of silicon rubber filled with nano and micro tin oxide (II). These shielding materials are evaluated by parameters such as mass attenuation coefficient, linear attenuation coefficient, mean free path, effective atomic number, and buildup factor. The morphology and mechanical properties of silicon rubber, which is reinforced with tin… Show more

“…The iron slag FTIR spectra display different absorption bands at 3432, 1633, 1434, 1112, 986,873 and 708 cm −1 . The band at 3432 cm −1 belongs to the stretching vibration of the hydroxyl group caused by the weakly absorbed water molecules on the slag surface, while the band at 1633 cm −1 is representative of portlandite 52 . The peculiar absorption bands at 1434, 873 and 708 cm −1 are assigned to the asymmetric stretching mode and bending mode of the carbonate group, respectively 39 .…”

“…Additionally, the increased thickness of the interacting material as a result of the increased penetration depth of the materials causes an increase in scattering events in the interacting medium, particularly for the material with the greatest equivalent atomic number. As a result, the EBF values are high [ 36 ].…”

“…The sources were chosen to cover a wide range of energy where five radioactive sources were used as follows, Am-241 (0.06 MeV), Ba-133 (0.081, 0.356 MeV), Cs-137(0.662 MeV), Co-60(1.173, 1.333 MeV) and Eu-152(0.121, 0.244, 344 ,0.778, 1.085, 1.408 MeV). These radioactive point sources were purchased from the Physikalisch—Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig and Berlin, which is the national institute for Science and Technology and the highest technical authority of the Federal Republic of Germany for the field of metrology and certain sectors of safety engineering 25 30 .…”
