Nano-Molar Level Hydrogen Peroxide Detection by Horseradish Peroxidase Adsorbed Cup-Stacked Carbon Nanotube Electrodes and Applications to l-Glutamate Detection

Abstract: We have developed a simple fabrication method of a highly sensitive direct electron transfer-type electrochemical biosensor for hydrogen peroxide by use of cup-stacked carbon nanotubes (CSCNTs). The CSCNTs, formed by stacking of cup-shaped carbon units, has larger internal space and more hydrophilic edges, thanks to the presence of functional groups containing oxygen (e.g., -COOH, -OH), than multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). When the CSCNTs suspension was cast, the CSCNTs were dispersed homogeneously ont… Show more

“…However, the insulating PLL and PSS prevent efficient electrochemical communication between HRP and CSCNFs and its kinetics study. Noda and co-workers previously developed a flow injection analysis system combined with HRP-adsorbed CSCNF electrodes for H 2 O 2 sensing, but they did not studied the reaction kinetics . Here we addressed this issue on the basis of a technique reported by Yan and co-workers, in which redox proteins were adsorbed onto carbon nanotubes with surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) for facile direct communication.…”

We immobilized HRP at the surface of CSCNFs with SDS and improved the efficiency of the electrochemical communication by 2 orders of magnitude.…”

“…Noda et al have developed hydrogene peroxide sensors based on CSCNF and horseradish peroxidase (HRP). 18 However, the nature of the CSCNF used and kinetics of the electrochemical reactions have not yet been studied extensively.…”
