Nano-Antennas Based on Silicon-Gold Nanostructures

Abstract: We experimentally realize nano-antennas based on hybrid silicon-gold nanoparticles (NPs). The silicon particles covered by clusters of small metal NPs are fabricated from a liquid phase under the effect of the laser irradiation. The complex nanoclusters containing both Si and Au components provide the enhancement of the near-field intensity and the resonant light scattering associated with excitation of multipole resonances in NPs. A strong sensitivity of the resonant light absorption to the hybrid particle si… Show more

“…The history of AuNPs dates back to remote times when red ruby glass began to be used; however, they received the maximum attention starting from the end of the seventeenth century. The properties of metallic gold, such as optical and thermal, are explained by describing the plasmon resonance, which makes the AuNPs employable as sensors [5], ultra-small light emitters [6], nano heaters [7], or nano antennas [8]. Gold is an element that has a singular mix of physical and chemical features both in macroscopic and microscopic conditions.…”

“…Spectral overlap between PL emission wavelength and LSPR peak (Fig. 6) can also enhance the PL emission strength of CdTe QD in presence of MNP in a way like antenna effect 52,53 . We attribute the increase in A 2 to the antenna effect enhancement and band to band recombination due to the reduction in Auger recombination.…”

“…In addition to heterodimers, composite structures comprising metal and dielectric nanoparticles have also been reported in other architectures, such as hybrid Au–dielectric particle clusters, [ 213 ] SiO 2 @Si arrays coated with Au nanoparticles, [ 195 ] plasmonic nanosponges filled with Si, [ 185 ] and Au@ZnS core–shell nanostructures. [ 189 ] Among these designs, Kucherik et al.…”

“…demonstrated a hybrid structure of Si spheres covered with Au nanoclusters, which were prefabricated in liquid phase under laser irradiation. [ 213 ] Coating of Au nanoparticles enhances the local near‐field density and resonant light absorption of these complex nanoresonators. Another typical composite is the core–shell structure with Au particles as the core and with dielectric ZnO materials as the shell.…”
