Extraction of a solid with the nominal composition "K GeBi" with 1,2-diaminoethane (en) in the presence of 4,7,13,16,21,24-hexaoxa-1,10-diazabicyclo[8.8.8]hexacosane (crypt-222) afforded the salt [K(crypt-222)] (Ge Bi ). The 18-atom Zintl anion (Ge Bi ) has a heretofore unknown molecular topology, which can be thought of as the formal condensation product of two E cages along a shared Ge waist. In this way, (Ge Bi ) represents the largest and most structurally complex Bi-containing polyanion. We describe its stepwise formation, its geometric and electronic structure, and comment on relative stabilities of isomers with different distributions of the four Ge atoms on the 18 positions that were investigated using DFT calculations.

Die Extraktion eines Feststoffs der nominalen Zusammensetzung "K 2 GeBi" mit 1,2-Diaminoethan (en) in Gegenwart von 4,7,13,16,21,hexacosan (crypt-222) führte zur Bildung des Salzes [K(crypt-222)] 4 (Ge 4 Bi 14 ). Das 18-atomige Zintl-Anion (Ge 4 Bi 14 ) 4À darin hat eine bislang unbekannte Topologie,d ie sich als formales Kondensationsprodukt zweier E 11 3À -Käfige entlang einer gemeinsamen Ge 4 -"Taille" verstehen lässt. (Ge 4 Bi 14 ) 4À stellt somit das grçßte und strukturell komplexeste Polyanion mit Bismutatomen dar.W ir beschreiben seine schrittweise Bildung, die geometrische und elektronische Struktur und diskutieren relative Stabilitäten der Isomere mit unterschiedlicher Verteilung der vier Germaniumatome auf den 18 Atompositionen, die wir mittels DFT-Rechnungen untersuchth aben. Bis vor kurzem wurde die Bildung von Polybismutiden als derart ungünstig angesehen, dass man davon ausging,m it diesem Element im Gegensatz zu den leichteren Homologen keine großen und komplexen Strukturen realisieren zu kçnnen. Im Unterschied zu der schon lange bekannten Serie von Bismut-Polykationen mit bis zu neun Atomen, [1] hat man jahrelang angenommen, dass Bi 2 2À [2] und das cyclische Bi 4 2À [3] die grçßten Polybismutide seien, die sich aus Festkçrperreaktionen oder aus Lçsung isolieren lassen. Diese Annahme stand im Widerspruch zur Vorhersage der Existenz von Bi 7 3À durch Zintl selbst, die er bereits 1932 aus (allerdings nicht ganz eindeutigen) potentiometrischen Titrationen ableitete. [4] Erst 2014 bzw.2 015 konnte mit der Synthese und einkristallinen Isolierung von Salzen der Anionen Bi 11 3À [5] bzw.Bi 7 3À [6] die obige Annahme widerlegt und die Vorhersage von Zintl bestätigt werden. Außerdem wurde in der Zwischenzeit das hochgeladene,Butan-analoge Anion Bi 4 6À gefunden, [7] das die Existenz kettenfçrmiger Polybismutide belegt. Noch grçßere polyanionische Cluster mit Bismutatomen waren hingegen nur über die Stabilisierung durch endohedrale Übergangsmetallatome (z. B. [Zn@(Zn 8 Bi 4 )@Bi 7 ] 5À ), [8] Lanthanoidionen (z. B. [La@E 14 4 Bi 9 ] 4À )( E 14 = Sn, Pb) [9] oder Actinoidionen ([U@Bi 12 ] 3À ) [10] zugänglich -k omplementärzuU ntersuchun-gen an Übergangsmetall-zentrierten Bismut-Polykationen wie [Pb@Bi 10 ] 4+ oder [Au@Bi 10 ] 5+ . [11] Auch die Synthese binärer Polyanionen (E 13 x Bi y ) qÀ oder (E 14x Bi y ) qÀ (E 13 = Ga, In, Tl;E 14 = Ge,S n, Pb) ohne endohedrale Atome stellt eine Herausforderung dar. Bisher kennt man nur die 4-atomigen Cluster (EE'Bi 2 ) 2À (E = Ga, In, E' = Bi;E= E' = Sn, Pb), [12] die 9-atomigen Cluster (E 4 E' 3 Bi 2 ) qÀ (E = In, E' = Bi, q = 3; E= E' = Sn, Pb, q = 2) [12b,c,13] und (binäre oder ternäre) Dimere 9-atomiger Cluster,(E 2 E' 6 Bi) 2 4À (E = E' = Ge;E = Ge,E ' = Sn). [14] Zusätzlich wurden die Anionen der Serie (Sn 9ÀmÀn Ge m Bi n ) (4Àn)À berechnet und mittels Massenspektrometrie nachgewiesen. Professor Malcolm H. Chisholm zum 65. Geburtstag gewidmet Die Aktivierung von P 4 -Phosphor ist ein aktuelles Teilgebiet der gegenwärtigen Chemie. Unlängst wurden durch Hauptgruppenelementverbindungen große Fortschritte erzielt, da sie in der Lage sind, eine, [1] zwei [2] oder drei P-P-Bindungen [3] zu öffnen und das P 4 -Molekül zu P 2 -oder P 1 -Einheiten abzubauen.[4] Die Aggregation von P 4 durch N-heterocyclische Carbene (NHCs) hat gezeigt, dass die große P 12 -Einheit in A erhalten werden kann.[5] Weiterhin wurden große kationische (P n + , n 89) [6] und anionische Polyphosphorspezies (P n À , n 49) [6,7] in der Gasphase durch Laserablationstechniken erzeugt. Frühere Untersuchungen in organischen Lösungsmit-teln durch die Gruppe von Baudler führten überdies zu einer großen Zahl an organosubstituierten Polyphosphorverbindungen.[ berichten. [9] Einige davon wurden als Verbindungen isoliert und strukturell charakterisiert, [10] so auch das Polyphosphid P 26 4À .[11]Im Unterschied zu dieser Aktivierung von P 4 unter Verwendung von Hauptgruppenelementverbindungen [12] ist die Aktivierung von P 4 durch Übergangsmetalle ein etabliertes Gebiet [13] und von großem Interesse im Hinblick auf Syntheseverfahren für Organophosphorverbindungen, die PCl 3 als Ausgangsstoff vermeiden. Die bisher größte neutrale P nSpezies, [{(Bu 3 P) 2 Ni} 4 P 14 ] (B), wurde durch Kondensation zweier P 7 -Einheiten ausgehend von Li 3 P 7 ·3 DME synthetisiert.[14] Mit P 4 als Ausgangsverbindung sind die größten[17] (C), in dessen Struktur zwei verknüpfte cyclo-P 5 -Einheiten vorliegen. Der bisher größte 31 P-NMR-spektroskopisch charakterisierte P n -Komplex, der ausgehend von P 4 synthetisiert wurde, ist [(Cp'''Co) 3 P 12 ] (D) (Cp''' = h 5 -C 5 H 2 tBu 3 -1,2,4). Er wurde durch die Gruppe von Scherer als Nebenprodukt (3 %) bei der Cothermolyse von [Cp'''Co(CO) 2 ] und P 4 bei 1908 oder in mäßigen Ausbeuten (23 %) durch Photolyse bei Raumtemperatur erhalten (neben 10 % [(Cp'''Co) 3 P 8 ]).[18] Zusätzlich wurde in beiden Reaktionen [(Cp'''Co) 2 (P 2 ) 2 ] gebildet, in der Thermolyse als Haupt-(22 %) und in der Photolyse als Nebenprodukt (4 %).Angesichts des derzeitigen Wissenstands stellt sich die Frage nach gezielten Synthesewegen für größere neutrale P nAggregate, um die Transformation von P 4 zum Hittorfschen Phosphor [19] oder anderen Polyphosphorstrukturen nachzubilden, die stabiler als P 4 sind.[20] Aus diesem Grund erschien die Nutzung eines ungesättigten Komplexfragments von Vorteil, das P 4 -Tetraeder zu größeren Spezies kombinieren kann.
