Bei Versuchen, Na2Zn(NH2)4 aus den Metallen in flüssigem Ammoniak bei Raumtemperatur zu synthetisieren, gelang nur die Darstellung eines Ammoniakates der Zusammensetzung Na2Zn(NH2)4 · 0,5 NH3. Die Struktur wurde röntgenographisch über Einkristalldaten aufgeklärt:
C2/c, Z = 24, a = 31,132(7) Å, b = 6,114(3) Å, c = 21,456(3) Å, β = 111,36(2)°, Z(Fo) mit (Fo)2 ≥ 3σ(Fo)2 = 2740, Z(Parameter) = 279, R/Rw = 0,045/0,050.
Eine Beschreibung der Struktur von Na2Zn(NH2)4 · 0,5 NH3 läßt sich von derjenigen von K2Zn(NH2)4 [1] ableiten. Na2Zn(NH2)4 · 0,5 NH3 ist aus isolierten Molekülanionen [Zn(NH2)4]2– aufgebaut, die durch Na+ verknüpft werden. Die Stickstoffatome bilden eine verzerrt hexagonal dichte Anordnung, in der sich Zn2+ in Tetraederlücken und Na+ in Oktaederlücken befinden.
