N2 Adsorbate States on Fe Films between 77 K and 273 K

Abstract: AdsorptionThe molecular adsorption of nitrogen on Fe films was studied between 77 K and 273 K. By means of a combined measurement of adsorption isotherms, changes in resistance, changes in work function and replacement processes using 14N2 and lSN2 it was possible to determine the regimes of the u-, 7-, and 6-states. Films annealed at about 320 K exhibit an adsorption behaviour very similar to that of Fe(ll1) single crystal surfaces. Iron / Nitrogen 1 Phase Transitions
