“…The five-membered RuN 2 C 2 metallacycle is slightly folded at the N(1)-N(2) vector (dihedral angles: 5a, 13.0°; 5b, 15.1°). The long CvN (5a, average 1.391(5) Å, 5b, average 1.383(4) Å) and short C-C bonds (5a, 1.392(5) Å; 5b, 1.414(5) Å) compared to those of a free α-diimine, N,N′-bis(methoxyethyl)butane-2,3diimine (CvN 1.28 Å, C-C 1.50 Å), 31 indicate that the metallacycle moiety experienced strong back-donation from Ru (2). These structural features are consistent with those of the previously reported diruthenium μ-η 4 -α-diimine complexes [32][33][34][35][36][37][38] and the μ-4,4′-dimethylbipyridine complex [(Cp*Ru) 2 (μ-η 4 -4,4′-Me 2 bpy)] (4,4′-Me 2 bpy = 4,4′-dimethylbipyridine), which was synthesized by the reaction of [Cp*Ru(μ-H) 4 RuCp*] with γ-picoline.…”
