N-Hydroxyphthalimide Immobilized on Poly(HEA-co-DVB) as Catalyst for Aerobic Oxidation Processes

Abstract: was tested in aerobic oxidation of p-methoxytoluene and α-methylstyrene. The studied reactions were carried out in the presence of AIBN and/or Co(II) salt without solvent or in acetic acid as solvent. It was found that the obtained polymer-supported NHPI catalyst showed the best catalytic performance, which was attributed to a high content of accessible NHPI moieties. The recovery and recycling of the obtained HEA/DVB-NHPI was only possible in reactions proceeded in solvent-free conditions. Abstract In the pre… Show more

“…However, this simple method may prove to be ineffective, if the product of the reaction will be characterized by high polarity and related good solubility of NHPI. Therefore, there were attempts to immobilize NHPI on solid carriers: Silicas [20,21], polymers [22][23][24][25], and zeolites [26]. As an example, Hermans [20] et al, in the process of oxidation of cyclohexane, used NHPI immobilized by simple impregnation on silica gel.…”

“…A few years ago, we reported the catalytic activity of NHPI adsorbed on porous metal organic frameworks (MOFs), in where there is a synergism between the adsorbed NHPI and the metal nodes of the MOF . In other reports, NHPI derivatives have been anchored to polymers, based on polystyrene or acrylates, and used to promote oxidations of benzylic hydrocarbons in combination or in the absence of Co 2+ ions. NHPI derivatives have also been anchored on mesoporous silica again using Co 2+ salts as promoter …”

“…Hence, this question has been mitigated through NHPI immobilization onto solid supports, such as silicas, MOFs, zeolites, polymers and others. [15,[54][55][56] Although the use of NHPI-heterogenized systems towards CÀ H bond oxyfunctionalization has been illustrated by some noteworthy examples on NHPI or its derivatives immobilized on solid supports, it would be appropriate to explore their anchorage onto other supports of different properties. The following examples illustrate recent advances in this field, describing the use of carbon materials, silicas, polymers, metalloporphyrins and others as supports for NHPI-catalyzed systems in hydrocarbon oxyfunctionalization.…”
