N- & S-co-doped carbon nanofiber network embedded with ultrafine NiCo nanoalloy for efficient oxygen electrocatalysis and Zn–air batteries

Abstract: A 3D carbon nanofiber network embedded with ultrafine nanoparticles is prepared by electrospinning. Thioacetamide is used to prevent the aggregation of active sites.

“…As observed, all of the resultant materials exhibited typical type‐IV isotherm hysteresis, revealing the mesoporous characters (Figure 2E). Meanwhile, the existence of microporous and macroporous structures was also confirmed according to large adsorption value within the range of P/P 0 from 0 to 0.05 and a significant increase within the range of P/P 0 from 0.9 to 1.0 [48] . Moreover, the specific surface area of the resultant HPNC‐2 was calculated to be 1263.6 m 2 g −1 , which is significantly larger than those of the resultant HPNC‐1 (764.3 m 2 g −1 ) and the resultant HPNC (731.3 m 2 g −1 ).…”

[48] Moreover, the specific surface area of the resultant HPNC-2 was calculated to be 1263.6 m 2 g À 1 , which is significantly larger than those of the resultant HPNC-1 (764.3 m 2 g À 1 ) and the resultant HPNC (731.3 m 2 g À 1 ). Besides, the pore distribution curves have been calculated using density-functional-theory (DFT) method, as showed in Figure 2F.…”

“…This catalyst displays the OER with the overpotential of 268 mV at 10 mA cm −2 and 0.806 V of ORR half‐wave potential. [ 94 ] In this work, thioacetamide (TAA) can chelate with Co and Ni ions, which effectively prevents the aggregation of metal atoms during the carbonization process and S doping is obtained at the same time.…”

“…The enhanced activity is mainly due to the synergistic metal–metal interaction, which can effectively modify the electronic structure, offer an enhanced electric dipole, and reduce the energy barriers during the electrocatalytic processes. [ 10,11 ] In addition, a carbon‐based composite modified by transition metals and corresponding carbides, [ 12 ] selenides, [ 13 ] nitrides, [ 14,15 ] phosphides, [ 16,17 ] sulfides, [ 18–20 ] oxides, [ 21–23 ] etc. shows superior catalytic performance and the carbon substrate can accelerate ion/electron transfer for the OER/ORR.…”
