Myxoma of right femoral vein origin presenting as a right atrial mass with syncope

Abstract: tory oliguria, and the development of generalized myalgia and respiratory muscle weakness. No known drug(s) associated with rhabdomyolysis, itself rare, 4 were administered, nor were any metabolic factors present that are capable of potentiating this event. When rhabdomyolysis has been reported in patients undergoing longterm therapy, no acute causative factor is apparent. 3,4 Rosenberg and colleagues, 5 however, have documented intraoperative rhabdomyolysis associated with pravastatin in cases in which the ope… Show more

“…Incidence of myxomas in the great veins is extremely rare. A review of the literature demonstrates few cases of vena cava locations and only one in a femoral vein [2]. This case of femoral vein myxoma was responsible for cardiac syncope after embolization in the right atrium [2].…”

“…Currently, due to the few cases reported in the literature, their incidence is unknown. The literature reports few cases of extracardiac myxomas, arising in the superior vena cava 12,13 , inferior vena cava [14][15][16] , femoral vein 17 , pulmonary artery 18 and aortic arch 19 . In most of these cases, the patients had at least one of the characteristic clinical triad symptoms (blood flow obstruction, thromboembolic events or constitutional symptoms) 1,3 , and were diagnosed based on imaging findings, mainly computed angiotomography.…”
