The process of building microgrids on top of existing passive distribution networks warrants a multi-criteria analysis. Besides the calculation of the investment outlays needed for the modernization of distribution networks, such an analysis covers an assessment of the technological and economic effects of building microgrids. The resulting effects depend on the topology and configuration of distribution networks, specific microgrid features, the choice of the current type for the entire microgrid or its individual parts, the methods of connecting distributed energy resources (DERs), the availability and maturity of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure, and other factors. Comprehensive input data allow for designing an optimal microgrid configuration, but the main technological and economic effects are determined by the algorithms of operation and the parameter settings of the automatic control system (ACS) and the protection system. The known approaches to designing microgrids focus on addressing basic tasks while minimizing the investment required for their implementation. The above is fully justified when constructing new microgrids, but building microgrids on top of existing distribution networks, given the uniqueness of their topology and configuration, does not allow the use of standardized solutions. The development of approaches to the design of microgrids under such constraints, with minimized investment in the modernization of existing distribution networks, is an urgent task. The use of different types of current for individual microgrid segments determines the choice of the particular ACS and protection system, which depends on the availability of information and communications technology infrastructure. This article contributes a review of approaches to designing AC and AC–DC microgrids so as to maximize their technological and economic effects. We review techniques for analyzing the existing distribution networks aimed at choosing the type of current for the entire microgrid or its individual parts, the optimal points for the connection of microgrids to distribution networks, and the mix and capacity of DERs, with such choices informed by the conditions of the switching devices and information and communications technology infrastructure. This article presents the results of the analysis of approaches to choosing the optimal configuration of microgrids, microgrid ACS, and protection system, with an evaluation of the technological and economic effects subject to the minimization of investment in the modernization of the existing distribution networks.

The role of restaurants, canteens, other forms of eatery and food service outlets are becoming very big part of most economies at different levels. However improvement in customer experience while making orders plays a very critical role in having a smooth and efficient menu ordering process. This article presents a novel hybrid approach that tackles the challenges associated with menu ordering especially in the post-covid era; both from software and hardware perspectives. First, a web-application - powered by ReactJS and GraphQL, which enables order request anywhere at any time was developed. In addition, is the implementation of hardware with mobility feature on trips to the restaurant using two Arduino microcontrollers (transmitter and receiver). The result allows the user to browse through a catalogue, check-in and out on a Thin-Film-Transistor (TFT) liquid-crystal display (LCD) and deliver a seamless experience to the customer.

Intelligent tourism can increase the interest of nomadic tourists in discovering new cities. However, many Points of Interest (POIs) are available, creating an information overload for tourists when choosing POIs to visit. For this reason, CARS (Context-Aware Recommendation Systems) can play an important role by exploiting the experiences of previous tourists and their contexts to recommend attractive POIs. Consequently, choosing the right POI recommendation algorithm (RA) for CARS is crucial because it involves the costly intervention of real tourists during the test phase. In order to make this phase more cost-effective, we can test several RAs simultaneously in order to assess their limitations in terms of cold start and tourist satisfaction. To compare these RAs, we propose in this article an approach called SEPRA (Systematic Evaluation for POI Recommendation Algorithms), which allows us to carry out an initial online evaluation of each tourist during their visit and a second offline evaluation of each CARS after the end of each POI path. To achieve this objective, we designed and implemented a new smart tourism tool that makes POI recommendations using two algorithms: the first is based on tourist/tourist similarity, and the second uses POI/POI similarity. These algorithms use memory-based collaborative filtering and are executed in parallel by our tool in the form of CARSs, incorporating time or weather as context variables. To evaluate these systems during their test phases, Our approach enables: (1) the calculation of prediction accuracy; (2) the examination of the relevance of the recommended POIs; and (3) the estimation of the acceptance rate of the recommendation process. Finally, the experimental results obtained with our approach show that the algorithm based on tourist similarity is more resistant to the cold start problem during the test phase and has a better satisfaction rate than the algorithm based on POI similarity.
