Myokines in Acromegaly: An Altered Irisin Profile

Abstract: IntroductionThe muscle is an endocrine organ controlling metabolic homeostasis. Irisin and myostatin are key myokines mediating this process. Acromegaly is a chronic disease with a wide spectrum of complications, including metabolic disturbances.PurposeTo examine the influence of acromegaly on irisin and myostatin secretion and their contribution to metabolic profile and body composition.Materials and MethodsIn 43 patients with acromegaly and 60 controls, serum levels of irisin, myostatin, growth hormone (GH),… Show more

“…Beta-aspartylthreonine involved in amino acid biosynthesis and dibutyl phthalate affects the reproductive function affecting the sexual development involving pituitary function . Creatinine regulates the creatine–creatinine metabolism in acromegaly patients. , Glycocholic acid helps in emulsification of fats and specific diagnostic biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and plays a crucial role in bile acid metabolism in acromegaly patients. Amylin, which is a glycemic regulator, and piperine, which inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis, were downregulated (Figure and Table S9) in acromegaly patients.…”
