Abstract: Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) encompass a heterogeneous set of acquired bone marrow neoplastic disorders characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis within one or more bone marrow lineages. Nearly half of MDS patients carry cytogenetic alterations, with del(5q) being the most prevalent.
