Mycoplasma and allied diseases of forest trees in India and vector-host-pathogen interactions

Abstract: Mycoplasma and allied diseases of forest trees in India have been described. MLO disease has been intensively studied in 'sandal' iSantalum album L.). Other forest trees showing typical MLO etiology are 'toon' (Toano ciliata), Acacia catechu, A. meamsii, Eucalyptus qrandisand E. tereticomis. Disease symptoms, collateral hosts, transmission tests with possible insect vectors and vector biology have been described for sandal spike disease. Reasons for contradictory results for sandal spike vectors have been di… Show more

“…To date, few species in the Meliaceae have been reported to harbour phytoplasmas. Besides Chinaberry, the only other recognized hosts are M. toosendam (Tsai et al ., 1988) and T. ciliata (Sen‐Sarma, 1984; Conci et al ., 1998). Interestingly, phytoplasma infections of both M. azedarach and T. ciliata occur in both Old and New World locations where these species are grown.…”
