Mycobacterium malmoense pulmonary infection in France: a case report

Abstract: Background Mycobacterium malmoense infections have frequently been reported in northern Europe since the late 1970s. Factors accounting for this geographically localized epidemiology remain poorly understood.Case presentationWe report the case of a 54-year old man concomitantly diagnosed with non-small cell lung carcinoma and M. malmoense pulmonary infection. We present detailed clinical, microbiological and radiological elements strongly arguing for M. malmoense true pathogenicity. Since M. malmoense infectio… Show more

“…Fresh culture colonies were suspended in DPBS, adjusted to 15 McFarland and serial dilution was performed in DPBS. The anti-tuberculosis activity of these seven bacteria was then tested against eight MTBC clinical strains including M. tuberculosis lineage 1 strain (CSURP9458) , M. tuberculosis lineage 2 strain Beijing CSUR Q1316 [ 18 ] M. tuberculosis lineage 3 strain CSURP7204, M. tuberculosis lineage 4 strain CSUR P7739 [ 22 ], M. africanum strain CSURP7201, M. canettii strain CIPT140010059, and M. bovis strain CSURP7222 [ 23 ]. All strains were cultured in Middlebrook 7H10 culture medium and calibrated to 10 7 CFU/mL, as previously described [ 24 ].…”

“…Out of 13 different species forming the Mycobacterium tuberculosis ( M. tuberculosis ) complex (MTC), only M. tuberculosis sensu stricto , Mycobacterium africanum ( M. africanum ), Mycobacterium bovis ( M. bovis ) as well as its derivative M. bovis bacille bilié Calmette-Guérin (BCG), and Mycobacterium canettii ( M. canettii ) ( 1 ) have been regularly detected as being responsible for tuberculosis (TB). This deadly infectious disease is still considered to be a worldwide health problem ( 2 ), and it is also of consideration to veterinary medicine ( 3 ).…”
