Mycelium Polysaccharides from Termitomyces albuminosus Attenuate CCl4-Induced Chronic Liver Injury Via Inhibiting TGFβ1/Smad3 and NF-κB Signal Pathways

Abstract: A major fraction (MPT-W), eluted by deionized water, was extracted from mycelium polysaccharides of Termitomyces albuminosus (MPT), and its antioxidant, anti-fibrosis, and anti-inflammatory activities in CCl4-induced chronic liver injury mice, as well as preliminary characterizations, were evaluated. The results showed that MPT-W was a polysaccharide of α- and β-configurations containing xylose (Xyl), fucose (Fuc), mannose (Man), galactose (Gal), and glucose (Glc) with a molar ratio of 0.29:8.67:37.89:35.98:16… Show more

“…Because of the high permeability of the plasma membrane to H 2 O 2 , H 2 O 2 -induced PC12 cells are generally considered to be an ideal cell model for studying neurodegenerative diseases [49][50][51]. Studies showed that the imbalance between free radical accumulation and antioxidant defense seems to be a link between cell death and the progression of neurodegenerative diseases [1,9,52]. ROS and the resulting oxidative stresses play an important role in apoptosis.…”

“…It cannot be cultivated, because a symbiotic relationship with termites is necessary [229,230]. The mushroom has been reported to contain water-soluble polysaccharides with a great variety of biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, hypolipidemic activities [230][231][232][233][234]. In addition, T. albuminosus has been reported to contain many other bioactive components, such as chitin-glucan complex, alkaline protease, saponins, melanin, lipids and ergosterol; some of which possess analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities [235][236][237][238].…”
