Musical education in hypermedia environment

Abstract

The paper first describes the current musical education in Hong Kong and its associated problems.The relationship between music and computer is then addressed. The objective of this project is to build up a system that can serve two purposes, educating beginners in fundamental musical theory and skill and guiding musicians into the world of computer music which can be considered a new field of engineering. Then, the basic structure of a hypermedia is introduced so that musical education can be implemented on such an environment. The features of the musical education system developed by our research team here in Hong Kong are described in details.
