Muon and Electron Number Nonconservation in aVAGauge Model

Abstract: We analyze muon and electron lepton-number nonconservation in a pure V-A. gauge model. The rates for p ey, p,-eee, and KL,pe are computed for this model. We find that for a reasonable range of neutral heavy-lepton mass these rates are in accord with, but not extremely small compared to, present experimental bounds. We comment on the nonorthogonality of v, and v", and interesting features of the I. decays. Some time ago we discussed a six-quark model' with only left-handed currents. This is a minimal extension … Show more

“…In generalized interactions, the differential branching ratio of µ ± → e ± ννγ decay has been calculated (Lenard, 1953;Behrends, et al, 1956;Fronsdal andÜberall, 1959). Here, the spectra of e ± and a photon depend not only on the Michel parameters of ρ and δ in the normal muon decay, but also on an additional parameter, η, which should be zero in the V−A interaction in the SM.…”

“…In the late 70's, especially in 1977, there were many theoretical papers on models with heavy neutrinos to discuss LFV (Cheng and Li, 1977a;Cheng and Li, 1977b;Bjorken, et al, 1977;Lee, et al, 1977a;Lee and Shrock, 1977b;Altarelli, et al, 1977), after responding to the false rumor on µ + → e + γ signals at SIN (Schweizerisches Institut für Nuklearforschung). Since then, various theoretical models have appeared.…”

“…When the SM is extended by adding extra lepton doublets or extra neutral singlets, the decay mode D 0 → µē can be generated (in a similar fashion as K L → µē) only if there are non-degenerate neutrinos and nonzero neutrino mixings [51]. We display the relevant box-diagram in Fig.…”

“…Note that these oscillations are similar in spirit to the so-called "indirect" four-dimensional neutrino oscillations discussed in Ref. [8], except that here we have an infinite tower of higher-dimensional Kaluza-Klein states mediating our flavor oscillations and we have no explicit mixing angles on the brane.…”
