Multiwavelength Observations of the Galactic Black Hole Transient 4U 1543−47 during Outburst Decay: State Transitions and Jet Contribution

Abstract: Multiwavelength observations of Galactic black hole (GBH) transients during state transitions and in the low/hard state may provide detailed information on the accretion structure of these systems. The object 4U 1543À47 is a GBH transient that was covered exceptionally well in X-rays and the infrared (daily observations) and reasonably well in the optical and radio during its outburst decay in 2002. When all the available information is gathered from the intermediate and the low/hard states, 4U 1543À47 makes a… Show more

As in samples of AGN, they are seen to switch from a positive correlation to a negative correlation between Γ andṁ, and therefore from harder-when-brighter to softer-when-brighter behaviour, whenṁ Edd increases above a critical value,ṁcrit.…”

“…The X-ray photon index and the flux are taken from RXTE observations (Kalemci et al 2005, with the same spectral fitting model as that adopted for GX 339-4), and M BH = 9.4 M ⊙ and d = 7.5 kpc are from Park et al (2004).…”

“…However, the cause of the softening remains unclear, largely because observations with sufficient sensitivity and cadence to track the photon index as it approaches, reaches, and eventually saturates to G » 2.1 are scarce (see, e.g., Kalemci et al 2005;Homan et al 2013 for examples of some of the best covered decays so far).…”
