Multivariate Analysis of COVID-19 for Countries with Limited and Scarce Data: Examples from Nepal

Abstract: This paper aims to understand the dynamics of the spread of COVID-19 for Nepal. It is carried out with the help of multivariate statistics techniques. Direct relationships among variables are obvious, as they are easily seen and measured. But, hidden variables and their interrelationships also have a significant effect on the spread of a pandemic. Multinomial logistic regression, odds ratio, linear mixed-effect models, and principal component analysis are used here to analyze these hidden variables and their i… Show more

“…Cluster analysis (hierarchical clustering) is a useful method of objectively organizing a large data set into groups on the basis of a given set of characteristics. CA comprises a series of multivariate methods used to find true data groups [46]. The primary objective of CA is to identify relatively homogenous groups or clusters of objects based on their similarities/dissimilarities [47].…”

“…These items of the questionnaire are similar to previous traumatic exposure questionnaires [27,28]. The impact of the pandemic on different aspects of life (i.e., economic, food security, employment, health related issues, daily life) was assessed on a five-point scale: "Not at all" (1); "a little" (2); "some" (3); "quite a lot" (4); and "a great deal" (5). This is a similar approach to what was used in the same region in relation to the impact of earthquakes [28].…”

“…The government of Nepal declared a strict lockdown from the end of March 2020. The level of restrictions to control the spread of the virus varied until August [5]. The restrictions were related to impacts across many life-domains including economy, health service use and food security.…”
