Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children Presenting With Pseudotumor Cerebri and a Review of the Literature

Abstract: Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare but life-threatening inflammatory immune response associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection. The majority of patients have been presented with hypotension, shock, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and mucocutaneous symptoms. The incidence of neurologic symptoms in MIS-C is of rising concern as they are not well described and reported in fewer patients. “…In the literature, the most frequently reported ocular finding in the acute phase in patients undergoing MIS-C is conjunctivitis, similar to Kawasaki disease, and less commonly punctuate epitheliopathy, anterior uveitis and papilledema [7][8][9][10][11][12]. Studies in the literature generally include the findings of MIS-C in the acute period.…”

“…Other inflammatory diseases have also been associated with pseudotumor cerebri. 20,21 The contribution of inflammatory mechanisms and changes in cytokine levels have been proposed as one of the pathophysiological mechanisms of this disorder. One study found that one-third of IIH patients showed various patterns of oligoclonal bands (OCBs).…”
