Multiscale assessment of the accuracy of surface replication

Abstract: This paper presents a methodology for the assessment of replication accuracy using a multiscale approach. It focuses on the quantification of 'metrological replication accuracy', which is a direct comparison of the topography of a surface and its replica. This methodology uses an analysis of variance and takes into account the variability of the experimental results. To assess replication accuracy, the differences in either one or several roughness parameter values of a surface and its replica are assessed ove… Show more

“…Measuring the surface topography of abrasive tools is possible, for example, using a laser scanning confocal microscope LEXT OLS 4000 (Olympus Co., Tokyo, Japan), but the limitation is the maximum height of the object being measured. It becomes necessary to use replicas of the surfaces under study [ 35 ] with a previously conducted assessment of the accuracy of the surface reproduction. Specialised materials and instrumentation providing a mapping resolution of 0.1 µm can be used to make replicas of the active surface.…”

“…These replications, shown in Figure 2, are composed of a fast polymerizing bi-component resin of silicone rubber for a close resolution of 0.1 µm [54]. This resin (RepliSet from Struers) is adapted for measurement using an optical interferometric microscope (interferometry) (SUPMECA School, Saint-Ouen, France).…”
