Multipulse dynamics in a Mamyshev oscillator

Abstract: We report on the multipulse dynamics in an erbium-doped fiber Mamyshev oscillator. It was demonstrated that, in addition to the single pulse, the multipulse patterns could be observed by adjusting the pump power, where the multiple pulses operated in random distributed state or bound state. Particularly, the multiple pulses could exhibit apparent difference in intensity, which was attributed to the unique step-like saturable absorption property of the Mamyshev oscillator. The individual pulse spectrum could be… Show more

“…Due to the unique step-like saturable absorption characteristics of the Mamyshev oscillator, the multiple pulses with significantly different intensities could be still stabilized. 52 In 2022, Zheng et al were demonstrated an all-fiber Mamyshev oscillator with 83 fs short pulse-duration that the sub-90 fs pulse output was first observed directly from the Mamyshev oscillator output coupler without extra compression. The modelocked operation was easily initiated when the power of the two pumps exceeded 33.9 and 28.8 mW, respectively.…”

“…In terms of experimental investigations, however, it is seriously limited by the poor temporal resolution of conventional spectroscopic techniques, which thus hinders the spectraltemporal study of individual pulses. Therefore, tracking the behavior of a single pulse within the multi-pulse cluster has been mostly conducted by numerical simulations and temporal observation [266]. The birth and dynamic behaviors of multi-pulse mode-locking so far have rarely been experimentally explored, particularly in the spectral domain.…”

“…For the bound-state pulse operation, Zou et al have experimentally obtained period-doubling bound-state solitons from an Er-fiber laser based on nonlinear polarization rotation technique [9]. Based on the combination of cascaded spectral broadening induced by self-phase modulation and offset spectral filtering effect, Mamyshev oscillators (MOs) have been regarded as convenient test beds for exploring complex nonlinear dynamical behaviors, including stable high-energy single pulses regime [10][11][12][13], bound-state pulses regime [14,15], and harmonic model-locking regime [16,17]. However, pulsating operations in MOs are rarely reported to our knowledge.…”
