Multiplicity fluctuations of pions and protons at SPS energy — An in-depth analysis with factorial correlator

Abstract: We compute the factorial correlators to study the dynamical fluctuations of pions and a combination of pions and protons (compound multiplicity) in 32 S-AgBr interactions at 200 A GeV. The study reveals that for both pion and compound multiplicity the correlated moments increase with the decrease in bin-bin separation D, following a power-law, which suggests the self-similarity of multiplicity fluctuation in each case. The results of the analysis also show a consistency with the prediction of α-model for the e… Show more

“…Therefore one may expect that it is worthy to use the compound multiplicity of grey and shower particles. Let us define the variable n c which equal the sum of n s and n g , i.e., n c (= n s +n g ) was introduced by the authors (Ghosh et al, 2009) in the case of hadrons-nucleus interactions and then some interesting characteristics of compound particles produced in hadrons-nucleus and nucleusnucleus collisions were investigated by several authors (Ghash et al, 1987;Basova et al, 1978;Nasr and Khushnood, 1994;Khan et al, 1997;Abdelsalam et al, 2002;Ahmed and Irfan, 1991). The production of particles emitted in the backward hemispheres in the laboratory system, was extensively studied in hadronsnucleus collisions at high energies.…”
