Multiple-Ring Monopole Antenna With Sleeve-Shaped Ground for DVB-T Applications

Abstract: This work presents a novel broadband monopole antenna for digital video broadcasting-terrestrial (DVB-T) application. The proposed antenna consists of a multiple-ring radiating patch and a sleeve-shaped ground plane. The multiple-ring monopole is used to realize the antenna height reduction at a fixed operating frequency. It shows a wide operating 2.5 : 1 VSWR bandwidth of 408 MHz achieved by using an impedance-matching technique. The technique applies cutting a notch at the ground plane opposite to the micros… Show more

“…The return loss from 452 MHz to 600 MHZ is higher than 5 dB, and the return loss from 600 MHz to 1020 MHZ is higher than 10 dB. The overall antenna performances of the proposed antenna compare with the previous antennas [9][10][11] in Table 1. The design consideration of proposed antenna is shown.…”

“…The size of the antenna is as large as 227 mm × 20 mm. In [10], a wide operating 2.5 : 1 VSWR bandwidth of 408 MHz between 463 MHz and 871 MHz is achieved. But the dimension of the antenna is as large as 261 mm × 26 mm.…”

“…Several types of monopole antennas have been developed using several techniques to achieve the broad bandwidth that is needed for DVB-T applications [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. These techniques include the use of a concavity in the ground plane [7], sleeve monopole antenna [16][17][18], circular-ring monopole antennas [19], a multiple-ring monopole antenna with sleeve-shaped ground [9] and a bevelling radiating element [20].…”

“…They have several advantages such as low-cost, wide bandwidth, omni-directional pattern and ease of integration into a PCB. Therefore they are attractive for portable systems, such as ultra wideband (UWB) communication systems [2][3][4], wireless local area network (WLAN) [5], Science and Medical (ISM) systems [6], and Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial (DVB-T) applications [7][8][9][10]. The DVB-T system has been adopted by many countries.…”
