Multiple phases with a tricritical point and a Lifshitz point in the skyrmion host Cu2OSeO3

Abstract: Magnetic skyrmions, a topologically stable spin swirling object, have attracted a great interest due to their potential applications in future spintronics and ultra high dense magnetic memory devices. Cu 2 OSeO 3 is only known insulating chiral helimagnet with multiple phases including skyrmion phase. Existence of skyrmion phase as well as first and second order phase transitions make Cu 2 OSeO 3 a promissing candidate for investigating complex magnetic phenomena. Here, we report that both first and second ord… Show more

“…From these results, the possibility of a fluctuation-induced, first-order transition has been discussed for EuPtSi, which is further supported by the recent observation of a tricritcal point [12]. Interestingly, the fluctuation-induced first-order transition has also been suggested to occur in other B20 helimagnets, such as MnSi and Cu 2 OSeO 3 [14][15][16].…”

“…All three magnetic phase transitions are second order, and all four phases are 2D Ising FM (below T ), 2D Heisenberg CAFM (T to T and T to T ) and PM (above T ). In this context, it is worthwhile to mention that the existence of competition between different exchange interactions give rise to multiple phases with multiple phase transitions as we have shown recently in Cu OSeO 64 , which is a skyrmion host helimagnetic system.…”

“…The X-ray diffraction (XRD) data of Cu OSeO were collected using Rigaku Miniflex 600 X-Ray Diffractometer with Cu−K radiation. Phase purity of the sample was confirmed using Rietveld refinement of the XRD data 40 . High precision magnetic measurements were performed using physical properties measurement system.…”
