Multiple Nonfamilial Unilateral Trichoepitheliomas: Report of a Case—Mini Review of the Literature

Abstract: Trichoepitheliomas are benign skin tumors with follicular differentiation that present most commonly as solitary lesions. They can also present as multiple centrofacial papules due to several mutations in the CYLD gene. Multiple unilateral trichoepitheliomas in a linear or dermatomal distribution may rarely be seen. Herein, we report a case of multiple unilateral trichoepitheliomas on the face of a healthy 34-year-old woman of Caucasian origin.

“…15,30 The use of topical imiquimod for the treatment of trichoepithelioma has been reported by several studies. 15,16,23,26 Mandekou-Lefaki et al reported a case of multiple nonfamilial facial trichoepithelioma treated with topical Management of multiple trichoepithelioma e197 imiquimod 5% cream three times per week. 26 After three months of treatment, less than 25% of the lesions observed at the baseline examination were still present, and a size reduction of 1-2 mm was seen in residual lesions, representing a partial response to therapy.…”

“…Eyebrows, cheeks, and eyelids are often involved [ 1 3 ]. Onset is usually seen in the childhood as asymptomatic, translucent, firm, papulo-nodular lesions predominantly affecting naso-labial folds and the central part of the face [ 6 , 7 ]. Lesions are often roughly symmetrical in shape and distribution and increase in size and number with age, producing a significant cosmetic disfigurement.…”
