Multiple Impacts of Illegal Logging: A key to Deforestation Over the Globe

Abstract: This article describes the main impacts of the illegal logging activities with emphasis on the most important deforestation affected regions; Indonesia, Bangladesh, Australia, India, Peninsular Malaysia, and Pakistan. Although the discussion is concentrated on the socioeconomic, environmental and governance impacts, it must be stressed that the term deforestation is the roadmap where the environmental values, the economy, and welfare of forest-dependent communities are crushed without any kindness. Despite mul… Show more

“…The influence that these supporting stakeholders has been directed at rationalizing and agreeing on the distribution of resources, especially budget resources. Meanwhile, the importance is to gain recognition from key stakeholders and key stakeholders that the institution has contributed positively to the mission of environmental preservation (Wirdani et al, 2023;Babar Taj, 2019;Aponte et al, 2016). In the context of implementing collaborative management of the Tahura Sultan Syarif Hasyim conservation area, Riau Province, the relationships built by supporting stakeholders foster public trust in the conservative values that they invest in.…”

“…The occurrence of illegal logging has a detrimental impact on socio-economic development in several regions around the globe. The subsequent enumeration outlines the socio-economic consequences resulting from the extensive practice of illegal logging: desertification, drought, erosion of traditional cultures, heightened runoff, economic decline, degradation of soil fertility, breaches of human rights, and an elevated prevalence of homelessness [17]. Illegal logging, also known as wood poaching, is a serious issue in Thailand's natural forests.…”

“…Some well-known negative environmental impacts of forest degradation and deforestation include torrential rainfalls, soil erosion, damaged landscapes, and emission of greenhouse gases (Khalid et al 2019). Furthermore, unsustainable forest management practices such as the removal of harvest residues, the conversion of primary forests to plantation forests, and site preparation can reduce soil organic carbon stocks significantly (Mayer et al 2020).…”

“…Furthermore, unsustainable forest management practices such as the removal of harvest residues, the conversion of primary forests to plantation forests, and site preparation can reduce soil organic carbon stocks significantly (Mayer et al 2020). Along with nutrient and carbon stock losses from soil disturbances, deforestation and unsustainable forest management can cause habitat fragmentation and biodiversity loss (Khalid et al 2019).…”
