“…However, the survival time increased progressively with each decade from 1940 to 2000, which they attribute to the use of MRI. J. Undabeitia [ 9 ] also believes that the increase in the incidence of ECM is related to the improvement of medical treatment as a whole. Epidemiologically, younger, healthier patients appear to be more prone to extracranial metastases, most likely because of longer overall survival (OS) compared with older GBM patients with multiple chronic diseases [ 10 ].…”

“…In a meta-analysis by Lun et al, 83 published cases of ECM from GBM were found in the period from 1928 to 2009 [ 2 ]. Increasing incidence of ECM has been suggested but possible explanations are increased interest among specialists, improved access to health care, improved neuroimaging, and advanced multimodal treatment of gliomas [ 2 , 7 ]. A meta-analysis by Anghileri et al supports the idea that prolonged survival of GBM patients is associated with greater risk of ECM and it is emphasized that this finding does not rule out the hypothesis that GBM subclones contribute to tumor cell dissemination [ 4 , 8 ].…”

“…Similarly, metastasis is rarely observed in gliomas. Both squamous cells carcinoma and gliomas are locally invasive and aggressive malignancies that rarely metastasize [117][118][119][120][121][122].…”
