Multiple enzymatic profiles of Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains isolated from oysters

Abstract: The enzymatic characterization of vibrios has been used as a virulence indicator of sanitary interest. The objective of this study was to determine the enzymatic profile of Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains (n=70) isolated from Crassostrea rhizophorae oysters. The strains were examined for the presence of gelatinase (GEL), caseinase (CAS), elastase (ELAS), phospholipase (PHOS), lipase (LIP), amilase (AML) and DNase. All enzymes, except elastase, were detected in more than 60% of the strains. The most recurrent e… Show more

“…Four tests of elastase, lipase, hemolysin and chitinase showed no activity for 100% of collected isolates both AHPND and non -AHPND ones. For elastase and lipase, it is somewhat in agreement with previous study, which did not detect elastase but lipase (80%) in V. paraheamolyticus (Costa et al, 2013). The variation of lipase expression in the two studies may due to the origin of V. paraheamolyticus isolates, one from Coptodisca rhizophorae oyster from Brazil, the other from Penaeus monodon shrimp (Costa et al, 2013).…”

“…Vibrio species such as Vibrio cholera, Vibrio vulnificus and V. parahaemolyticus have been carried out (Oliver et al, 1986;Vermelho et al, 1996;Fiore et al, 1997;Kadokura et al, 2007;Costa et al, 2013). However, in Vietnam, there has not been any similar project on V. parahaemolyticus until now.…”

“…It has been known that the ability of Vibrio spp. to cause gastroenteritis is associated with the haemolysin production (Costa et al, ). Both V. parahaemolyticus and V. diabolicus were negative, and V. fluvialis (71%), V. alginolyticus (22%) , V. anguillarum (50%) and V. aestuarianus (100%) were positive for haemolysis.…”

“…such as V. cholerae and V. fluvialis are also known to harbor specific virulence-related genes (Chakraborty et al, 2000;Liang, Cui, Du, Kan, & Liang, 2013). In addition to the haemolysins, there are various extracellular enzymes such as lipase, protease, gelatinase, phospho-lipase, amylase, and DNase produced by vibrios which involve in their pathogenicity and infection (Costa, Amorim, Araújo, & dos Fernandes Vieira, 2013).…”
