“…Surgical interventions (laser-, electro- and cryo-surgery) may also lead to substantial defects with functional or cosmetic morbidity, and may not allow the histopathologic confirmation of the clinical diagnosis. Radiotherapy is an effective treatment of KA9, but it is inappropriate for younger patients and is inconvenient because of the need for multiple visits to the hospital. Intralesional injection of chemotherapeutic agent has also proved therapeutically successful10.…”

“…These cases demonstrate the potential for reactive KAs to form or worsen from repeated surgical trauma. Other authors have reported cases of KAs arising in surgical scars, 3,10 but none have documented such reproducible recrudescence with appropriate repeated surgical treatment modalities. In case 2, surgical excision, topical and intralesional chemotherapeutics, and radiotherapy all worsened the disease process.…”

“…Goldberg and colleagues described six cases of solitary and multiple KAs developing at the edges of Mohs surgical excisions 3 . Vergara and colleagues recently described one case of multiple and relapsing KAs developing at the edge of skin grafts placed on lower legs 10 . Other types of trauma‐induced KAs reported include after laser resurfacing, in skin graft donor sites, and with other forms of trauma 5…”

“…In literature it has been described also the opposite effect, about relapsing KAs or exacerbation of KAs after radiotherapy sessions. Vergara et al(15) have reported the cases of multiple and relapsing KAs developed at the edge of the skin grafts site after surgery and after radiotherapy. In our case we have not had any relapses of lesions after a long followup, probably thanks to the lower parameters employed, a total of 25 Gy, compared with those used by Vergara et al a total of 50 Gy.…”
