“…Our previous study showed isolation of the DMRT1 homologue from Crocodylus palustris , along with its partial genomic locus. DMRT1 exhibits transcriptional diversity as seen in GSD species [Anand et al, 2008]. The karyotype analysis from the early passages of actively proliferating cultures showed only 30 homomorphic chromosomes without any distinguishable sex chromosome pair as reported earlier [Singh and Ray-Chaudhuri, 1973].…”

“…The 495-bp DMRT1 fragment sequenced here (accession numbers FJ791118 for C. picta and FJ791119 for A. mutica ) was similar to Crocodylus palustris isoforms a1, a2, c, d, and e [Anand et al, 2008] and included the 3 half of the DM domain box [Raymond et al, 1999]. Sequence identity between the Chrysemys fragment and that of other reptiles and chicken was high: 99% identical to Trachemys, 97% to Mauremys , 96% to Apalone, Pelodiscus, and Lepidochelys, 89% to Crocodylus and Alligator , 83% to Gallus , 82% to Elaphe and Trimeresurus , and 80% to Calotes and Gekko.…”

“…For example, in both the redeared slider and the olive ridley turtles, the gonadal ex- pression of DMRT1 is dimorphic during the early stages of the TSP in embryos incubated at MPT or FPT [Torres Maldonado et al, 2002;Shoemaker et al, 2007]. In the Indian mugger, Crocodylus palustris , the expression of DMRT1 is dimorphic during the TSP and has also been shown to undergo alternative splicing [Anand et al, 2008]. However, each isoform appears to be expressed more highly in the gonad of embryos incubated at the MPT relative to those incubated at FPT and, thus, would suggest a more critical role for transcriptional regulation in establishing dimorphic activity.…”
