Multinuclear Yeast Magnusiomyces (Dipodascus, Endomyces) magnusii is a Promising Isobutanol Producer

Abstract: Higher alcohol isobutanol is a promising liquid fuel. During alcoholic fermentation, Saccharomyces cerevisiae produces only trace amounts of isobutanol. Screening the collection of nonconventional yeasts show that Magnusiomyces magnusii accumulates 440 mg of isobutanol per L in rich YPD medium. Here, the transformation protocol for M. magnusii is adapted based on the use of the dominant markers conferring resistance to nourseothricin or zeocin; the strong constitutive promoter TEF1 is cloned and a reporter sys… Show more

“…They also developed advanced transformation protocol in which strong constitutive promoter TEF1 cloned and created the reporter system to test promoter strength. These methods also allowed to express heterologous S. cerevisiae ILV2 gene coding for acetolactate synthase which led to advanced isobutanol production of 0.7 g/ L [ 20 ].…”

“…In contrast, C. parapsilosis can cause infections, especially in people with a weak immune system. M. magnusii, which is a unique yeast created by forming large multinuclear cells, has been studied less than the other yeast species [19][20][21].…”
