Abstract:Loss compensation via inserting gain is of fundamental importance in different branches of photonics, nanoplasmonics, and metamaterial science. This effect has found an impressive implementation in the parity-time symmetric (PT -symmetric) structures possessing balanced distribution of loss and gain.
