Multilinear Regression Model for Biogas Production Prediction from Dry Anaerobic Digestion of OFMSW

Abstract: The aim of this study was to develop a multiple linear regression (MLR) model to predict the specific methane production (SMP) from dry anaerobic digestion (AD) of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW). A data set from an experimental test on a pilot-scale plug-flow reactor (PFR) including 332 observations was used to build the model. Pearson′s correlation matrix and principal component analysis (PCA) examined the relationships between variables. Six parameters, namely total volatile solid (TVS… Show more

“…1 a, the cumulative production of methane in control and PAC-conditioned reactors were compared; whereas, AS-conditioned reactors were compared to the control in Fig. 1 b. BMP curves of control, PAC and AS group reactors were simulated according to the Modified Gompertz model (R 2 > 0.9827 in all cases, indicating that the fit between experimental data and model was satisfying) [ 38 ] and were shown in two different charts for better visualization.…”

“…There is high research activity in data-driven models proposing black-box input-ouput NARMAX models and ANNs, but the results obtained at laboratory scale or in small pilot plants are rarely extended to large production plants. For example, the multiple linear regression model proposed by Rossi et al [138] predicts the specific methane production from a pilot plug-flow dry anaerobic digester, which could be implemented at industrial scale to improve production from existing plants that treat the organic fraction of MSW.…”

“…Different data splits of 70/30, 80/20, and 90/10 between calibration and validation were employed. The best model was selected, taking into account R 2 from both splits and the normality of the residuals [37].…”
