Multifunctional Silver Nanoparticles: Synthesis and Applications

Abstract: Multifunctional silver nanoparticles have attracted widely due to their potential applications. Based on the properties of individual silver nanoparticles, such as plasmonic and antibacterial properties, silver nanoparticles can become multifunctional by surface modifications with various surfactants or they can be combined in core-shell and composite structures with the magnetic nanoparticles to form bifunctional nanoparticles. After reviewing the methods of synthesis and applications of silver nanoparticles,… Show more

“… 171 , 172 , 173 , 174 , 175 In order to combine the different properties of separate NPs together, the easiest way is to coat them both in a suitable shell, such as silica. 176 On the other hand, to design effective NPs for cancer radiation therapy, selective targeting of tumor cells using various strategies is important. One promising method to improve the accumulation of different NPs in tumor cells is the attachment of targeted ligands.…”

“…The multifunctionality of nanoparticles refers to their ability to execute several functional synergistically 34 . In the case of silver nanoparticles derived through green synthesis, the properties like plasmonic and antibacterial effects was found by surface modification with diverse surfactants to make it multifunctional 35 . This development contains the immense possibility for therapeutic application, such as cancer treatment, diagnostics, and neuropathologies, inhibiting HepG2 cell proliferation 36 .…”

“…Considering these facts, chemical synthesis is best suited if the use of toxic reagents could be avoided. Further, carboxyl functionalized silver nanoparticles exhibit much better dispersity and stability in aqueous solution [9][10][11]. Furthermore, drug-loaded nanoparticles exhibit noticeable pH-sensitive behaviour with accelerated release of drug in acidic environment.…”
