Multifunctional Silver Decorated Leather Solid Waste/Poly(Vinyl Alcohol) Nanocomposites for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding, Joule Heating and Crude-Oil cleaning

Abstract: With the rapid development of modern intelligent industry and the Internet of Things, the demand for multifunctional electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding material has increased for complicated application scenes. Herein, derived from a hazardous waste, i.e., leather solid waste (LSW), a silver/LSW/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) membrane has been prepared via resourceful combination of solids state shear milling (S3 M) and electroless plating technology. The debundled leather fibers prepared by S3 M can act… Show more

“…[153][154][155][156] Compared with solar heating, Joule heating has the advantage that it is able to be used in all weather conditions, and it has a stable operation and high adsorption efficiency. [157][158][159][160] Zeng et al used the degradable material polylactic acid (PLA) to prepare a 3D foam material with rough surface morphology via a freeze-drying method. 158 After its surface was dip-coated with a layer of graphene oxide (GO), it was reduced with hydroiodic acid (HI) to obtain the reduced GO (rGO) @PLA foam, as shown in Fig.…”

“…The inherent fibrous structure, high protein content, thermal insulating character, and sound deadening properties of leather waste (LW) increase its potential use in composite applications. LW is used as a biobased filler in various thermoplastic matrix materials including, poly(vinyl chloride), , polyacrylonitrile, poly(vinyl alcohol), ethylene vinyl acetate, , polyethylene, acrylonitrile butadiene rubber, polyamide, thermoplastic starch, poly(lactic acid), and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). The mechanical behaviors of the resulting filled materials have been a focus. In the limited number of studies, the effect of LW on the electromagnetic shielding and flame-retardant properties of the materials has been investigated.…”

“…[1][2][3] At the same time, the air is cold, and the temperature multifunctional wearable electronic device with visual Joule heating, electromagnetic shielding, and piezoresistive sensing performance. Shi et al [19] used leather solid waste (LSW) and silver (Ag) as materials and obtained conductive Ag/LSW fibers with high aspect ratio and conductivity through solid-state shear grinding and electroless silver plating and used polyethene alcohol (PVA) encapsulation prepared Ag/LSW/PVA film, which exhibited excellent electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding (62 dB), mechanical properties (tensile strength reached 89.7 MPa) and Joule heating ability (56 s to 101.3 °C), which shows great potential in the future intelligent oil stations under the premise of satisfy-ing high-efficiency electromagnetic shielding, the Ag/LSW/PVA film can effectively absorb heavy crude oil through Joule heating and porous structure, and realize double protection for electronic equipment. Currently, the shortcomings of leather functionalization research lie in the challenges of simple selection of composite materials (AgNWs and Ag are expensive) and weak composite bonding methods (physical methods).…”
